Siem Reap is the gateway to the Angkor Archaeological Park, visited by as many as a million people each year. The town itself also has some worthwhile attractions including the Angkor National Museum, which is a great place to learn about the history of the main temple complex.
You can also visit a couple of beautiful modern Buddhist temples, namely Wat Preah Prom Rath and Wat Bo.
While Siem Reap's inhabitants still live a laid back Cambodian lifestyly, the town has many modern amenities, including five star restaurants and hotels, as well as more economical options for food and lodging.

Just outside of town, you will find the Banteay Srey Butterfly Centre, where you can observe spectacular local butterfly species flying close at hand in a beautiful tropical garden. Also worth a visit: Wat Thmei Temple & Stupa Memorial to the Killing Fields, Kampong Phluk Floating Village, and the Landmine Museum.
