Santo Domingo de Heredia, Costa Rica

Santo Domingo de Heredia is a delightful place set amidst huge coffee plantations in the lush and verdant Central Valley of Costa Rica.

Located midway between Heredia city and San Jose, this small town is quaint and picturesque, with lovely old colonial homes and buildings that have been restored to their former glory.

However, the best part of staying in Santo Domingo de Heredia is that it is only a 15-minute car drive to downtown San Jose.

When in Santo Domingo de Heredia, be sure to visit the INBio Parque or the Institute of Biodiversity (Instituto Nacional de Biodiversidad)which is part park and part educational center, and is home to around 600 species of plants, over 50 species of birds and an enchanting butterfly farm.

The official currency is the colon, but American dollars are usually accepted as well. You'll get the best exchange rates by simply withdrawing cash in colones with your ATM card.
