Discovering Opportunities Worth Pursuing

Many entrepreneurs fleeing the States or their respective countries are looking for opportunities worth pursuing. In many cases, these entrepreneurs need only to look for unsolved problems causing frustration for the largest number of people, and then - in some way alleviate those frustrations -  to be successful. 

This principle is another way of putting into practice a principle we use here at the key to success is making others successful.

This principle has been made popular by Michael Gerber, author of the E-Myth:an opportunity worth pursuing is an opportunity that  alleviates the frustration of the greatest number of people. People want their problems, their frustrations removed from their lifes, and those with the means to do so, will pay to have their problems solved.

I noticed this simple principle while traveling this week: when boats pull up next to a dock or other boats, the sides of the boats scrape up against the dock or the other boats, damaging the sides of the boat. Certainly a frustration to boat captains and boat owners, having your boat damaged every time the boat is docked or comes alongside another boat.

How was this problem solved? Using a simple, inexpensive but effective method - old tires. Not at all pretty; the tire in the photo was painted white to hide its unattractiveness, but the solution works. The "frustration" by the boat owner is alleviated.

In this case, no one benefited from the solution, as old tires are plentiful and can be had at no cost.

However, in every country, in every city, in every locale, there are dozens of just such frustrations that are waiting to be alleviated.  All that is needed is the observant eye of a would be entrepreneur to spot them, devise a solution and offer that solution at a cost the market (of frustrated people) are willing to pay.

Finding these problems to solve are now referred to as "finding your niche."
